Dave Duffield was called out of retirement back in October
to lead PeopleSoft again in what turned out to be its
final few weeks. When the acquisition was completed, it seemed
to be at least an opportunity for him to get back to his
retirement. Most of us, I'd guess, who found ourselves at
age 61 with a billion dollars in the bank would be happy
at that prospect.
But now there's this. A new website hinting at Dave's next
move, www.davesnextmove.com,
talks about the problems associated with today's ERP
systems. "They are too expensive to deploy and maintain; are
complicated and difficult to use; [and] were built for the
back office and largely ignore the informational needs of the
line manager." True, true, and mostly true. The site then
says that this new unnamed organization is building "the
next generation of enterprise applications."
There aren't any details, but there is a place to sign up
for news bulletins. The site has job postings
for web-based user interface designers and object-oriented
application developers. It mentions generating the user
interface definitionally. Sounds just like PeopleSoft,
so no clues there either.
The organization is based in Walnut Creek, CA, which is where
PeopleSoft was headquartered before moving to Pleasanton.
I find that at least a little amusing.
Anything Dave's involved in bears watching. This should
be interesting!
